What is the Double Under Pass?
The double under pass is one of the most fundamental guard passing techniques in BJJ. You pass by getting both arms underneath your opponent's legs and driving forward with shoulder pressure. This technique is effective from guard positions and is a staple in competition and training.
Basic Setup and Mechanics
Initial Positioning
From standing or base position, establish control over your opponent's hips. Post one hand on their thigh or hip while your other hand controls their leg.
Arm Placement
Drive both arms underneath their legs, positioning your hands for maximum control. Lock your hands together or grip their legs firmly as you begin your pass.
Pressure and Weight Distribution
Shoulder Pressure
Drive your shoulder into opponent's hips and apply heavy pressure. This prevents them from bridging and escaping your pass.
Hip Positioning
Keep your hips tight and low. This positioning prevents opponent from creating space and allows you to drive forward powerfully.
Finishing the Pass
Once you've driven forward and established position on one side, post your hand and rotate your hips to establish side control or mount position.
