Cross Lapel Choke Overview
The cross lapel choke is a devastating submission that uses the opponent's lapel to control both sides of their neck. This technique is especially powerful from guard positions.
Grip Setup
- Control lapel on one side with deep grip inside the collar
- Grab the cross lapel with other hand
- Both grips should be on the same lapel system for maximum pressure
- Keep hands close to your body for leverage
Entry from Closed Guard

Step 1: Establish lapel control with grip deep inside collar

Step 2: Use your legs to control posture and prevent escape

Step 3: Apply cross lapel grip, transition to finishing position
Finishing Mechanics
- Secure both lapel grips firmly
- Drive shoulders forward while pulling lapels tight
- Keep pressure on the sides of the neck
